About My Story

  • My name is Younia Shabo, an Accredited practising dietitian (APD) located in Sydney, Australia.
  • As a young girl, I used to have one meal a day, restrict myself from all energy-dense foods (like chocolate, biscuits and others), and feel guilty and ashamed when having a second meal or having any discretionary foods with the thoughts of being a healthy person. This restrictive eating affected both my physical health (where I had absent menstruation) and my mental health (Even with my restrictive behaviours, I put on more weight and that frustrated me all the time).
  • At the time, I knew something was not right and there should be something that could help me enjoy my favourite foods and be healthy without those restrictive behaviours and thoughts. I realised that the thing was understanding nutrition and an actual profession called a ‘Dietitian’. I decided then that being a dietitian was the career path that I wanted to pursue.
  • I am beyond grateful for having the opportunity to study and become a dietitian here in AUS.
  • So, I started learning more about nutrition, how food affects our weight, as well as what a healthy relationship with food actually looks like.
  • This is why I am passionate about helping and teaching people to build a healthy balanced lifestyle by simplifying nutrition so that they can feel confident about their eating habits and that they don’t need to skip their favourite foods to be healthy or lose weight.
    • With this personal connection & lived experience to all of the above, if I can share my knowledge, and help people reach their health goals without restrictive behaviours, I will be one happy Dietitian.
